In this day and age of quick fixes, sometimes you even forget you have a medical degree! Smh usually whenever I see these new fixes, I check it against my knowledge and do some research to toss out the grain from the chaff. So ask me why I decided to do the advocare cleanse? I guess it was all the before/after pictures and weight loss transformations I saw on Instagram, anyways, so I bought the cleanse.
I'm "reviewing" it on here so y'all can keep your money. First, the body is a well designed machine much like a self cleaning oven that can get rid of waste and "toxins" on it's own. Your liver/colon do NoT need any special cleanses.
Anyways, the system comes in the mail and it consists of a fiber drink, "herbal cleanse" and probiotic tablets. I hate taking pills so this was a huge letdown for me (I don't know what I was expecting, lol)
The "herbal cleanse" is pretty much dosed out in 3 pills which contains insane amounts of vitamins (up to 500% the RDV of Niacin).
I don't know about you, but I'm 100% fine with a 100% of my recommended doses, which brings us to point 2: Just because something is herbal/natural doesn't mean you cannot overdose on it. Yes, you can have too much of something good. I would know because on the second day of the cleanse, I found myself in the E.R with excruciating stomach pains that were out of this world. I'm sure it wasn't anything I ate, and the only thing off was the "herbal cleanse", a little research: google niacin toxicity.
So let's recap:
1. Fiber drink: makes your colon move faster = poop more
2. Herbal cleanse: lots of vitamins
3. Probiotics: makes your colon move faster = poop more
All was not lost as the package came with a bomb ass fantastic workout plan and meal plan. You are advised to drink a lot of water on this 10 day cleanse.
Which makes me question whether the weight loss from the testimonials was not due to working out 5 times a week/eating clean and drinking a lot of water. Even if you didn't do any of it, the "cleanse" is pretty much a laxative so you lose water weight and no real "fat".
So save your money: eat clean, kill it at the gym, drink loads of water, take a multivitamin and you'll be fine.
I'm gonna weigh myself at the end of the 10 days and see if I lost weight, and just gonna agree that I paid for the workout plan!
Hey! I've done the advocare 10 day cleanse. Thinking of the 24 day challenge next.
